Pratt & Whitney Canada, a division of RTX, has unveiled its PT9 turboprop engine, a new centerline powerplant that arrives with type certification already in hand from Transport Canada. The company introduced the engine in Las Vegas on October 21, 2026.

According to the company, the PT9 delivers 33 percent more power at altitude and reduces fuel consumption by 20 percent compared with previous-generation turboprop engines. It is aimed at powering next-generation single and twin-engine turboprops.

The engine amassed more than 14,000 development hours ahead of its certification. Pratt & Whitney Canada says the PT9 is designed around evolving customer needs, with advanced digital capabilities and a modular construction that supports future hybridization and electric aircraft.

Production of the PT9 will take place in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, which also serves as the company's global Center of Excellence for the PT6 family of turboprop engines.
