The Department of the Air Force has awarded a contract for the seventh production lot of the F-15EX Eagle II fighter, covering 22 aircraft, the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center announced on September 29.

The F-15EX Eagle II is built by Boeing and is the newest production variant of the F-15 family in use with the U.S. Air Force.

The Lot 7 award follows the Air Force's earlier decision this year to more than double its planned F-15EX fleet to 267 aircraft, a plan reported in April by Air & Space Forces Magazine.
