Partnership spans both Formula 1 and World Endurance Championship teams
Etihad Airways has been named as an Official Partner of the McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 Team and the McLaren United Autosports WEC Hypercar Team starting in 2026, marking a significant expansion of the airline’s motorsport presence.
The partnership will see Etihad branding featured prominently on the McLaren MCL40’s rear wing and halo, as well as on driver helmets throughout the F1 season. Beyond branding, the agreement includes digital and experiential rights for fan activations at races worldwide.
McLaren-branded Boeing 787 Dreamliner coming
Perhaps the most visible element of the partnership will be a special McLaren-branded livery on an Etihad Boeing 787 Dreamliner, scheduled to debut later in 2026. The co-branded aircraft will serve as a flying advertisement across Etihad’s global network.
“This partnership enhances Etihad’s premium positioning. F1 and WEC offer global exposure in key growth markets.”
Building on Abu Dhabi Grand Prix legacy
The McLaren partnership builds on Etihad’s long-running motorsport involvement. The airline has served as title sponsor of the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix since 2009, establishing a deep connection between the brand and motorsport.
Why airlines love F1 partnerships
Formula 1’s globe-spanning calendar makes it an attractive platform for airlines seeking year-round international visibility. The sport travels to over 20 countries across five continents, offering premium hospitality opportunities and access to high-value customers including corporate travelers and affluent leisure passengers.
The Etihad-McLaren partnership represents the “team partner” tier in F1’s airline sponsorship ecosystem, joining other carriers like Qatar Airways (Alpine’s official airline partner) in the motorsport sponsorship space.
What this means for travelers
For aviation enthusiasts and F1 fans alike, the partnership promises unique experiences throughout the 2026 season. Expect co-branded content, VIP experiences at races, and potentially special tour packages combining Etihad’s network with McLaren’s racing calendar.
The McLaren-liveried 787 Dreamliner will likely become a sought-after aircraft for aviation spotters when it debuts later this year.
