Boeing has been selected to build the U.S. Navy’s next-generation fighter under the F/A-XX program, winning a contract reported to be worth around $20 billion.

The F/A-XX is the Navy’s planned successor to the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, intended to fly as part of the future carrier air wing.

Production work on the new fighter is expected to be centered at Boeing’s St. Louis facility, where the company builds its combat aircraft.
