Bye Aerospace, a Colorado-based manufacturer, has completed the first test flight of its eFlyer 2, an all-electric, two-seat aircraft designed for pilot training.
The aircraft took off from Centennial Airport near Denver, Colorado, flown by chief test pilot Elliot Seguin. The milestone flight came just days after the company received a special airworthiness certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Bye Aerospace says the battery-powered trainer is quieter and cheaper to operate than conventional piston aircraft and could reduce flight-training costs by as much as 80 percent.
