An Indian pilot has been hailed as a hero after a cockpit attack on a Flydubai flight travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv.

Captain Smit Machchhar was reportedly attacked and stabbed by his co-pilot, an Omani national, during flight FZ1073. The co-pilot is accused of attempting to interfere with the aircraft's controls.

Captain Machchhar acted quickly, opening the cockpit door in what he described as a final push to summon help and avert a potential disaster. He remains in hospital recovering from his injuries.
