A Flydubai co-pilot has been accused of attacking the captain with a crash axe during a flight, with UAE authorities treating the incident as a "terrorist act," Al Jazeera reported.

The incident took place aboard Flydubai flight 1073. CBS News reported that the co-pilot allegedly stabbed the captain and attempted to crash the plane.

CNN reported that the suspect had previously been removed by another airline over extremist views, while The Guardian noted ongoing speculation over the motive, ranging from suicide to terrorism.
