Metro Aviation has given the air medical industry its first look at a medical interior designed for the Airbus H140, the manufacturer's upcoming light twin-engine helicopter. The Shreveport, Louisiana-based company is showing a full-scale mockup during the Air Medical Transport Conference (AMTC) 2026 in Fort Worth, Texas.
The H140 was introduced at Verticon 2025 in Dallas and fills the gap between the H135 and H145, aimed squarely at helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS) operators. It offers approximately 20 percent more cabin volume than the H135, along with a flat floor, enlarged rear clamshell doors, a raised T-tail boom, a five-bladed main rotor, Safran Arrius 2E engines, and Airbus's Helionix avionics suite.
Metro's interior concept centralizes the medical control console and adds an aft medical storage cabinet, responding to requests from operators in both Europe and the United States. It can accommodate the Stryker Power-PRO powered stretcher system and includes additional mounting locations throughout the cabin for monitors and medical equipment.
The design remains a concept, and Metro plans to use feedback gathered at AMTC to refine it. Under its purchase agreement, the company is scheduled to receive 12 H140 helicopters, with the first arriving in the fourth quarter of 2028.
