NASA has announced the X-70, a new experimental research aircraft designed to advance flight research.
The X-70 is a crewed, high-performance research platform that NASA says will demonstrate and develop advanced flight-control technology, with capacity to carry up to 2,000 pounds of additional research payload.
NASA noted the X-70 joins a legacy of experimental aircraft that includes the Bell X-1, which first broke the sound barrier in 1947, the X-15 hypersonic research aircraft, and the X-59 quiet supersonic demonstrator.
