The United Arab Emirates has suspended all flights operated by Iranian airlines to and from the country until further notice.

The decision was announced by the UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority, which said the measure was taken in light of US restrictions targeting Iranian airlines.

The move follows a US Treasury announcement on September 8 that imposed sanctions on 27 Iranian airlines as part of a wider package linked to the country's aviation sector.

Dubai is a major destination for Iranian carriers, which had operated multiple daily flights, and several other countries have also moved to restrict Iranian flights.
