Electra has operated its EL2 ultra-short takeoff and landing hybrid-electric aircraft from a Manhattan heliport, demonstrating the aircraft's ability to operate in constrained urban settings.
The EL2 uses blown-lift technology that directs airflow over the wing to achieve takeoffs and landings in very short distances, far less than conventional fixed-wing aircraft require.
The Manhattan flight highlights growing interest in hybrid-electric and electric aircraft for regional air mobility connecting dense city centres.
