The European Investment Bank has approved 3 billion euros ($3.4 billion) in financing for Airbus to support research and development.

US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer told the European Union this week that the record-breaking loan threatens the fragile aircraft trade truce between Washington and Brussels, and called for greater clarity.

The truce dates back to 2021, when both sides agreed to suspend tariffs on aircraft trade after a long-running dispute over alleged subsidies to Boeing and Airbus at the World Trade Organization.

Airbus has defended the financing.
